Sandy and Rob

In 2017 we decided to embark on early retirement in order to do some long haul travel while we still have the energy. So, embarked upon a six-month house sitting tour of Asia, Australia and New Zealand. This was actually our 25th Wedding Anniversary tour as we were backpacking Down Under all those years ago.

We love the pet and house sitting lifestyle so much we continued with sits in the UK for the summer in 2018 followed by sits in New Mexico, Ontario and Mexico. Despite Covid we haven’t really stopped since with return trips to Mexico and Australia and now closer to hand in Europe for 2022.

We are a happily married couple and for 5 years prior to travelling the globe lived on the island of Gran Canaria (Spain) where Rob taught Maths in a British international school. Sandy worked in the theatre as a Stage Manager and was an Events Organiser working on many high profile events, latterly in a public school as an admin assistant and an exam invigilator. Rob has worked in the IT and defence industry. Both had security clearance at the highest level. Over the years we have been pet owners (10 much loved cats and one dog between us) we have loved and nursed a number of our pets through old-age and ill-health. We’ve had rescue cats who lived to 19 and 20 years old, we’ve also looked after kittens. Sandy has experience with pedigree cats and kittens, having been a cat breeder previously. We consider ourselves to be kind, caring, sensible, professional, practical, mature, honest, responsible and reliable and we are non-smokers. We are happy to look after your pets in a clean, safe environment and will leave your home clean and tidy too. 

Why we want to house sit 

We love travelling and we love pets. Currently we have one but not the other. We hope that by being house sitters we can combine both loves and you can relax knowing your pets and house/property will be excellently cared for. 

Our Experience 

Sandy’s voluntary work and experience with animals has included “Riding for the Disabled” in Bedfordshire, and “Pets As Therapy” with our collie/greyhound cross (lurcher), who loved visiting our local residential home. Living in Gran Canaria, learning Spanish, integrating into local life and discovering the local customs has been a tremendously rich experience. Our hope is to expand our travelling horizons and bring our wealth of experience to any situation. We are property owners, landlords and tenants and have a full range of house maintenance skills. We have been keen narrow boaters in the UK for many years, enjoying the camaraderie of the boating community and Rob particularly enjoys being hands-on with the maintenance and tinkering that goes along with owning a boat. In the UK we were also keen gardeners, here in GC we have a small terrace with local pot plants. We both have clean UK driving licences and current car insurance. Full DBS checks in last employment and previous CRB in UK.  
We speak Spanish (hablamos español) and now we have many home owner reviews.
